During a recent episode of “It’s Showtime,” the comedian became emotional after meeting several drivers who joined the “Laro Laro Pick” segment. He noted how rising fuel prices continue to severely affect their daily income and livelihood.

One contestant, identified as Hapon from Bicol, shared his difficult journey to Manila in hopes of supporting his family. He said he had been driving jeepneys for years along the Cubao-Quiapo route but eventually stopped due to insufficient earnings caused by rising oil prices.

According to Hapon, the situation became so difficult that he could no longer send enough financial support to his family back in the province. He now survives by working as a baggage porter on the streets of Cubao after leaving driving behind.

Vice Ganda expressed deep sympathy for Hapon and other drivers facing similar hardships. The host emphasized that even small government aid is not enough to sustain families struggling with daily expenses.

“Sana lang nanonood ang pamahalaan.” Vice Ganda said.

He further stressed the need for preparation and long-term planning from authorities, pointing out that fuel price increases and economic pressures are not new issues.

“Marami pong Pilipinong ganito ngayon, nawalan ng trabaho dahil sa taas ng presyo ng gasolina, lalung-lalo na ang mga drivers, sila ang unang tinamaan ng krisis na ito, mga hindi na makapasada.”

Vice also questioned the lack of clear solutions for affected workers, urging the government to act before situations worsen further.

“Makapasada man, wala naman kinikita. Ang tanong, ano ang plano niyo sa kanila?”

Aside from raising concerns, Vice extended financial help to the participating drivers and assisted Hapon in returning to Bicol. He also shared that despite ABS-CBN’s own challenges, the network continues to support public service efforts.
