Mariz Umali's name trended on social media amidst the issue surrounding Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings.

The news anchor then reacted to the memes connecting her to the controversy because of her similar name to Maris.

In GMA Integrated News' "Ask Me Anything" or AMA sessions on Reddit, Mariz expressed, "'Di ko akalaing magte-trend ako alongside Maris."

The Kapuso journalist went to share her sentiments on the issue involving the actors. She encouraged the public to give the ones involved a break.

"Pero seriously I hope we can also give them a break. Masakit pinagdaraanan nila and though Filipinos love humor, naniniwala ako na Filipinos also are sensitive enough to give them peace."

Furthermore, Mariz urged everyone to pray for those involved in the controversy instead.

"Kaugnay sa nangyaring kontrobersya, ipagdasal na lang natin sila. Walang may gusto na malagay sa ganung kontrobersya, sakit at kahihiyan kaya let's pray for their peace of mind and the ability to rise from this painful situation," Mariz wrote.

Maris Racal is a Filipina actress, singer-songwriter, host, vlogger, and endorser. She became prominent in 2014 after competing in "Pinoy Big Brother: All In," where she placed second. She was previously in a relationship with Rico Blanco, a singer-songwriter and OPM legend. Her career also shot forward after her loveteam with Anthony Jennings in "Can't Buy Me Love" was well-liked by fans, and her following also increased.

Anthony Taberna could not help but share a comment that mentioned “maris at anthony.” In the comment, a netizen jokingly used Ka Tunying and Mariz Umali’s photos. Ka Tunying took to Instagram to share a screenshot of the comment and wrote, “Hindi kami.” It is worth noting that the said comment surfaced amid Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings’ issue.

In the comments section, it could be noticed that Mariz left a comment on her fellow journalist’s post. Ka Tunying’s wife Rossel Taberna replied to Mariz with a couple of laughing faces with tears emojis.
