Tito Sotto tweets about Paolo Contis’ speech about “Fake Bulaga” comments

Paolo Contis went viral during an episode of ‘Eat Bulaga’ on GMA for his speech about getting hurt emotionally due to some people referring to TAPE Inc’s ‘Eat Bulaga’ as “Fake Bulaga.”

Tito Sotto, one of the original hosts of ’Eat Bulaga,’ took to Twitter to react to Paolo’s speech. Tito asked: If Paolo and his team are hurt by the “Fake Bulaga” comments, then why don’t they use a different name for their show?

Furthermore, Tito commented that TAPE Inc. has no right to celebrate Eat Bulaga’s 44th anniversary since they were not there at the beginning of the show in 1979. Tito added that the split between TAPE Inc. and the original hosts — Tito, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon — means that TAPE Inc’s Eat Bulaga is no longer legitimate.

“Tape inc has absolutely no right to celebrate 44 years. They existed only in 1981. They did not exist in 1979. EB ceased to be EB when TVJ left them,” Tito tweeted.

Paolo explained on EB why he and his team are hurt by the Fake Bulaga comments:

“Mahalaga rin po sa akin na sabihan ang ginagawa po namin ay totoo. Marami pong nagsasabi kami po ay fake. Maraming nagsasabi kami ay 'fake bulaga.' Wala pong peke sa pagmamahal ko sa grupong 'to.

"Kaya masakit po sa'min kapag tinatawag niyo kaming 'Fake Bulaga' dahil wala pong fake sa ginagawa namin, sa ngiti na nakikita namin sa mga tao. Wala po," Paolo said.

"Eat Bulaga" is the longest-running noontime variety program on Philippine television. The show premiered on July 30, 1979. Its pioneer hosts include showbiz icons Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Tito Sotto. Tape Inc.'s "Eat Bulaga" recently went back live on air on GMA with its new lineup of hosts, including Paolo Contis, Buboy Villar and Betong Sumaya.

Isko Moreno and Paolo Contis inked a “long-term” contract with TAPE’s "Eat Bulaga." The contract signing took place on July 8 at APT Studios. TAPE Inc. and Sparkle GMA Artist Center’s executives were present at the contract signing event. Sparkle and Kapuso reporter Nelson Canlas took to its social media pages and shared photos from the event.

Isko, during his "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" guesting, shared with Boy the words of wisdom he gave to the EB team before they aired last July 1. The former Manila City mayor told them to just enjoy the afternoon and be themselves. He also admitted that they felt so much pressure on that day when TVJ’s “E.A.T.” was launched and “It’s Showtime” started airing on GTV.
