Kim Chiu spoke out about the Philippines’ recurring floods and heavy rains, calling on Filipinos to remain vigilant, question how public funds are used, and demand accountability from those in power.

In a post on X on Sunday, August 30, Kim reflected on the months of successive rains and the impact of flooding on Filipino families, livelihoods, and infrastructure. She pointed out that billions of pesos in public funds have been allocated for infrastructure and disaster-related projects, prompting her to question whether these efforts are adequately protecting communities.
Before sharing her questions about government spending and disaster preparedness, Kim emphasized that the money used for public projects ultimately comes from Filipino taxpayers.

Maraming tahanan ang nalubog, maraming kabuhayan ang nawala, at marami ring imprastraktura na pinondohan ng bilyon-bilyong piso mula sa pera ng taumbayan ang nasira o hindi nakayanan ang mga ganitong sakuna.

Kim acknowledged that heavy rains and typhoons are natural occurrences in the Philippines. However, she said the repeated suffering experienced by Filipinos should not simply be accepted as normal when it is also connected to preparedness, infrastructure, and governance.
“Natural ang malakas na ulan at bagyo sa Pilipinas, pero hindi dapat maging normal ang paulit-ulit na pagdurusa ng mga Pilipino dahil sa kakulangan sa paghahanda, maayos na imprastraktura at responsableng pamamahala.
Minsan pakiramdam ko, ang Diyos at ang kalikasan na mismo ang nagpapaalala sa atin na may mga bagay tayong kailangang makita, tanungin at baguhin.
Do we really deserve this? Papalampasin na lang ba natin ulit?”
She also urged Filipinos to remember the effects of the floods even after the rains stop and the waters recede. Kim specifically called attention to families who lost their homes and livelihoods and now have to rebuild their lives.
“Mga kababayan, sana huwag nating kalimutan ang mga nangyayari ngayon kapag humupa na ang baha at tumigil na ang ulan. Huwag nating kalimutan ang mga pamilyang inanod ang bahay, ang mga nawalan ng kabuhayan, at ang mga Pilipinong kailangang magsimulang muli mula sa wala.
Nakakalungkot at nakakadurog ng puso.”
Kim then stressed what she believes should be expected from the government during disasters, particularly when communities are left dealing with the consequences of flooding.
“Sa ganitong panahon, ang gobyerno dapat ang unang kumikilos, ang unang tumutulong, at ang unang nananagot. Public service is a responsibility, not a privilege.
Sana habang may mga kababayan tayong walang matulugan, walang makain at hindi alam kung paano magsisimula ulit, maalala ng mga nasa kapangyarihan kung sino ang tunay nilang pinaglilingkuran.
ANG TAUMBAYAN.”
Toward the end of her message, Kim encouraged her fellow Filipinos to remain critical and to continue asking questions about government services and the use of public resources.
“At tayong mga Pilipino, magtanong tayo. Maging mapanuri tayo. Maningil tayo ng maayos na serbisyo at pananagutan.
Dahil pera natin ito. Bayan natin ito. Kinabukasan natin ito. Huwag nating kalimutan.”
Kim Chiu, who rose to fame after winning “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition” in 2006, has since established herself as one of Philippine showbiz’s well-loved multimedia personalities. Known as the “Chinita Princess,” the actress has taken on various roles in the entertainment industry, including hosting “It’s Showtime” and starring as a lead actress in several successful ABS-CBN television dramas.
In an interview reported by ABS-CBN News, Kim called on Filipinos to continue supporting one another amid ongoing challenges. She welcomed WorldRemit’s P500,000 donation for communities affected by calamities, with the aid to be distributed through the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation. Kim also spoke about her bond with overseas Filipino workers and the joy of entertaining Filipinos abroad.
Kim likewise opened up about her financial growth after two decades in showbiz, emphasizing that saving alone is no longer enough without proper budgeting and investments. Kim said the challenges she faced early in her career helped shape the strong work ethic she has today, viewing success as a result of dedication, responsibility, and gratitude.
