James Reid has opened up about a major financial setback that changed the course of his career, revealing that he lost around P150 million—an amount that accounted for nearly everything he had earned and saved over more than a decade in the entertainment industry.

The actor-singer made the revelation during his appearance on Gary Valenciano's podcast, "Unshaken," where he reflected on the challenges that affected both his career and personal life. James also acknowledged the role of his girlfriend, Issa Pressman, saying she helped him understand the situation he was in and remained a constant source of support throughout the difficult period.

James said the loss represented nearly all of the savings he had built through years of work in show business.

Emphasizing the extent of the financial blow, he said, "That was like the last 10 years of work that I've done, probably more. It was almost all of what I've saved."

According to James, the financial troubles were linked to a former business partner at Careless Music, someone he had regarded as both a trusted colleague and a close friend. Because of the confidence he placed in that person, he admitted he failed to recognize the warning signs until the situation had become much more serious.

He shared that Issa was ultimately the one who opened his eyes to what was happening and encouraged him to face the reality of the circumstances.

The challenges unfolded around the same time as the controversial "Wavy Baby Music Festival" in Mandaue, Cebu, in 2023. Organized by Careless Music, the event became the subject of criticism due to delays and several logistical issues.

Reflecting on the festival, James said it became a series of setbacks that quickly spiraled out of control. He recalled that police officers even arrived at the venue because the event had not been properly planned, noting that the project had been managed by his former business partner.

"It was a nightmare," he recalled. "Just problem after problem after problem, and police showing up because it was just not planned properly."

Despite the difficulties surrounding him, James said his relationship with Issa gave him something positive to hold on to. He shared that being with her brought him comfort and hope even as he was dealing with overwhelming personal and professional challenges.

James eventually chose to end both his business partnership and personal relationship with his former partner.

Looking back, James said the experience transformed the way he viewed life and deepened his relationship with Issa. He added that their love became the guiding force that helped him move forward after everything he had endured.

"That love became my compass. I believe that God sent specifically the brightest light in my darkest moments."

James Reid is a multi-talented Filipino performer known for his work as an actor, singer, songwriter, and record producer.
