However, everything changed when the COVID-19 pandemic arrived.
According to Neri, their home garden became an important source of fresh vegetables, helping their family maintain healthier eating habits during that challenging period.
She added that gardening also became an educational experience for their children, exposing them to the process of growing vegetables and making it easier for them to appreciate eating nutritious food.
Neri also looked back on her childhood, revealing that her love for gardening came from her late mother.
“My mom loved gardening… namana ko sa kanya yun.”
She fondly remembered helping her mother every day after school while they lived in Subic.
Aside from tending vegetables, Neri recalled that their family also raised pigs, and she even collected leftover food from neighbors to help feed them.
Even today, she said being surrounded by plants continues to bring her genuine happiness.
Neri also revealed one of her long-term dreams.
Hindi man ngayon, baka balang araw. Pangarap muna sa ngayon, hehe!”
In another social media post, Neri encouraged people experiencing anxiety, stress, or exhaustion to spend time outdoors.
“If you ever feel anxious, overwhelmed, or simply tired… Try taking a slow 15-minute walk in the garden.”

For those without a garden, she suggested taking a relaxing walk in any area filled with plants.
“Or mag walk ka lang sa area nyo.. basta somewhere na surrounded with plants… nakakatulong talaga…”
According to Neri, nature has a unique way of bringing comfort during difficult moments.
“Somehow, nature has a quiet way of reminding us that everything has its own season… and that everything will be okay.”
She ended her reflection by sharing how being around plants always brings peace to her heart.
“I don’t know how to explain it, but every time I’m surrounded by plants, my heart feels lighter. It’s like God gently whispers, ‘Everything will be okay.’”
