BB Gandanghari recently took to social media to express her condolences to the family of late Ateneo basketball player Rene “Bobet” Baterbonia.

The actress and content creator shared a video from Baterbonia’s funeral, capturing an emotional moment involving his mother, Rovelyn Baterbonia, who was seen crying as she mourned the loss of her son.

Alongside the video, BB wrote a heartfelt message reflecting on the unimaginable pain of losing a child and the lifelong grief many parents are forced to carry.

“Gone too soon. The reality is that mothers will grieve forever. They will not ‘get over’ the loss of a child; they just learn to live with it,” BB wrote.

She also offered words of comfort and prayer for the grieving mother.

“May the God Almighty give you, Ma’am Rovelyn, the strength, comfort and peace in this time of unparalleled bereavement.”

BB then paid tribute to the late student-athlete and acknowledged the promise that many saw in him.

“Rene Clert ‘Bobet’ Baterbonia (2008-2026). My deepest condolences to the Baterbonia family. I share with your grief. Wasted talent.”

Baterbonia, 19, was one of two Ateneo de Manila University basketball players who died during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora. The tragedy also claimed the life of fellow Blue Eagles player Divine Adili, 21.

The deaths of the two young athletes have sparked an outpouring of grief from the sports community, educational institutions, alumni groups, and supporters across the Philippines and abroad.

Many have remembered Baterbonia not only for his talent on the basketball court but also for his character, kindness, and positive influence on those around him.

Previously, Rene Baterbonia Sr. spent Father’s Day grieving the loss of his son, Bobet Baterbonia. The devastated father shared how painful it was to mark the occasion without his child. He revealed that he had personally trained and guided Bobet throughout his basketball journey from a young age. Despite enduring tremendous heartbreak, he encouraged fellow parents to remain actively involved in the lives and development of their children.
