Cathy, a grief counselor and author, opened up about her medical journey through a social media update published on Monday, June 15. Her post featured a photograph of herself inside a hospital room, documenting her readiness to face the difficult medical treatments ahead.
In her message, Cathy gave a detailed glimpse into the routine she now follows every two weeks as she undergoes chemotherapy. She described how each treatment day begins at home with preparation, support from her family, and a sense of quiet determination before heading to the hospital.
She first shared the familiar structure of her mornings, which now serve as preparation for each treatment cycle:

“Chemo days begin early in our home. It’s a cycle that repeats every 14 days now. There is a quick breakfast lovingly prepared by my husband, who also happens to be a nurse, followed by the familiar ritual of checking my chemo bag. Water bottle. Snacks. Charger. Hope. Courage.”
Cathy then described the journey to the hospital, highlighting the presence of loved ones who accompany her during these sessions:
“Then off we go to the hospital, often accompanied by my favorite daughter-doctor and son-in-law team. Beyond grateful.”
Upon arrival at the medical facility, she explained the brief interaction with her oncology team and the process of settling into treatment. She emphasized trust and reliance on her doctors during this stage:
“A brief visit from my oncology team, the people whom, next to God, I trust with my life takes place an hour after I arrive. I settle into the chemo chair and let the medicines do their work.”
She also recounted a candid moment during treatment involving medication that often causes her to fall asleep shortly after it is administered:
“Then comes the IV Benadryl. Within minutes, the Pink Ninja is defeated by a much stronger opponent: sleep. I close my eyes and wake up a couple of hours later. Another cycle done. Another hurdle crossed.”
Before leaving the hospital, Cathy shared a prayer that has become part of her routine after every session, reflecting her faith and gratitude:
“Before leaving, I whisper the same prayer:
'Thank You, Lord, for carrying me through today. Please carry me safely to the next one.'”
In the latter part of her post, she reflected on the lessons she has learned since her diagnosis, particularly the importance of rest, acceptance, and finding joy in simple moments despite her condition:
“Cancer has taught me many things, but perhaps the most important is this: to pay attention.
To rest when my body asks for rest. To accept stillness without guilt. To find joy in small things—a good cup of coffee, a funny text message, a grandchild’s laugh, a page written, a prayer answered. And through it all, I carry the love and prayers of so many people. Family. Friends. Even strangers who have whispered my name to God. I feel those prayers. I truly do.”

She concluded her post with a reflection on resilience, expressing hope that she will emerge from this chapter of her life with greater strength, gratitude, and joy, while continuing to take her journey step by step:
“Cancer changes you. It is hard. There is no way around that. But my hope is that when I emerge from this season, I will be gentler, wiser, more grateful, and more fully alive and filled with joy than ever before.
For now, the Pink Ninja moves forward the only way she knows how:
One cycle at a time. One prayer at a time. One grace at a time.”
Caridad Sanchez is one of the most respected veteran actors in the Philippines, known for playing a wide variety of characters in movies and television series. Her projects include Ika-6 na Utos, The Borrowed Wife, MariMar, La Vendetta, Enteng Kabisote 4, and Shake, Rattle & Roll II.
In a report last year, Cathy voiced her concern over a netizen who shared a photo of her mother, Caridad, and questioned the actress’ condition. She addressed the misunderstanding surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and clarified aspects of caring for individuals with the condition. She also emphasized the importance of compassion, music, and familiarity in supporting patients. Cathy reminded the public to be more sensitive and understanding toward the elderly and those dealing with illness.
Earlier, Cathy shared a heartfelt conversation she had with her mother, noting that it was unusual for her mother to open up to him before their Sunday lunch. He recalled gently asking her mother who he was in an effort to help trigger her memory amid her dementia. He said he became emotional when his mother sweetly responded.
