Philippine entertainment is mourning the loss of a veteran figure following the death of actor-turned-director Ed Finlan, known in private life as Eduardo Valdez. Ed was a recognized face in the early 1970s Filipino cinema and later transitioned into a director role at the People's Television Network (PTV-4), the government television network.

In a heartfelt social media post confirming his father’s passing, Martin expressed the deep loss felt by the family, stating, “It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my father, Eduardo Valdez, better known to many as Ed Finlan.”
Addressing his father directly, Martin added, “Dad, I am going to miss you more than words can say. I love you forever. I’m sorry for the times we struggled, and it hurts so much to see you go. You will always be in my heart.”

Ed made a significant mark on the Philippine showbiz scene, particularly during the 1970s. He was a popular leading man in various films and was notable for being paired with some of the biggest stars of the era, including Hilda Koronel in "Haydee" (1970) and "Happy, Hippie, Holiday" (1970), as well as Nora Aunor in "Ang Waray at ang Talyada" (1972).
His filmography includes roles in "Baby Vi" (1970) with Vilma Santos, "Stop, Look, Listen" (1969), and "Never Ever Say Goodbye" (1983). Later in his career, Eduardo was associated with PTV-4 as a director, bringing his experience in television production to the public network.
Family and friends are expected to gather for his final services. A final mass is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, at 1:30 PM at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Makati City, where Eduardo will be laid to rest.
