The Baguio City council has been planning to ban public display of affection (PDA) at the Children’s Park in Burnham Park. KAMI learned that the proposed measure was passed to first reading.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, City Councilor Joel Alangsab said that he filed the ordinance to ban intimate behaviors because these are not pleasing to the eyes of the public, most especially to the children.

"Kahit 'yong staff ko, nakikita na 'di maganda 'yong mga ginagawa ng mag-couples," Alangsab said.

"Bawal ang petting and lying down together in a scandalous manner," he added.

According to a report by Rappler, Alangsab said that the Children’s Park is a place to have great quality time with their family and friends.

"The Children's Park is a fun-filled area for kids and a favorite family destination within the famous Burnham Park. A place where families have a great time to bond with relatives and friends," the City Councilor said.

"These inappropriate acts are inimical to the welfare and moral of the children visiting the park, hence, it must be regulated," he added.

Under the proposed measure, the violators will face P500 fine for first offense, P1,000 for second offense, and P2,000 for third offense. If ever the violators won’t be able to pay the fine, they will face 8 hours of community service instead.

In addition, the Baguio City council has also passed on first reading the measure which seeks to officially label the Summer Capital of the Philippines as the “Honeymooner’s Haven.”

“This title can be attributed to its natural cool climate where air-conditioning is 24 hours a day and the air in the locality is filled with the fresh scent of pine. This is further enhanced by the beautiful hotels and gardens perfect for a dream wedding at reasonable and minimum cost," City Councilor Leandro Yangot said.

"It is but appropriate and fitting to formally declare Baguio City as Honeymooner's haven, as well as support its establishment as the wedding destination of the North," he added.

The proposed measure seeks to urge all hotels in Baguio to provide “Honeymooner’s Wedding Package” for the couples who will be holding their wedding ceremony in Baguio.
