The suspect was wearing a complete habit of a priest when he offered to do a blessing in time for St. Bakhita’s feast day. The residents of Barangay 105 immediately believed him to be a priest. However, they suspected him when they saw Ponterez keeping his money inside the Bible.
Later on, Ponterez admitted that he has been doing his modus for about a year now. The police found out that the suspect was once convicted due to carnapping.
The police were also able to retrieve bottled water that was allegedly from Mt. Banahaw that the suspect used as his “holy water”.
Ponterez also has tattoos in form of marijuana and a mark which represents that he is a member of Sputnik gang. If there will be no certificate that can attest to his claim that he is a priest, the suspect will be facing charges of usurpation of authority, estafa, and grave coercion.
