The legal counsel of actress and television host Kim Chiu issued a statement following the arraignment of her elder sister, Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu, earlier this afternoon.

In a statement shared on Facebook by entertainment reporter MJ Felipe, LEaP Legal and Technical Consultancy — through Atty. Margrein Archernar M. Gregana, counsel for HOLB-PH and Kimberly Chiu — said their clients remain committed to pursuing the cases filed against Lakam.
“Our clients are dedicated to pursue the cases against Lakam Chiu,” the legal counsel said.
The lawyers, however, explained that they are unable to comment extensively on the details of the proceedings because of the sub judice rule, which generally restricts public discussion of matters that are actively being considered by a court.

“We are precluded by the courts to make comments because of the subjudice rule,” the statement read.
The counsel confirmed that the arraignment had already been concluded and that the legal proceedings would continue before the court.
“For now, the arraignment was concluded and the cases will continue to be heard by the court,” the statement continued.
The legal team likewise emphasized that Kim and the organization represented by the counsel continue to place their trust in the country’s judicial process.
“Naniniwala ang HOLB at si Kim Chiu sa justice system natin at pinapaubaya niya ito na dadaan sa tamang proseso para makamit ang hustisya,” the statement said.
The development follows the arrest of Lakam, 45, by Quezon City police in Barangay Wack Wack, Mandaluyong City. She was apprehended in connection with an alleged qualified theft case involving 124 counts.
The Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 84 issued the warrant of arrest against Lakam. She has since been released on bail.
The case originated from a criminal complaint filed by Kim in December. The complaint reportedly followed the discovery of alleged financial discrepancies connected to their business.
With the arraignment now concluded, the case will proceed through the court system. The legal counsel’s latest statement indicates that Kim’s side intends to continue with the cases while refraining from discussing matters that could be affected by the sub judice rule.
For now, the parties involved are expected to allow the court to handle the proceedings. The legal team’s statement also underscored that any determination arising from the allegations will have to go through the appropriate judicial process.
The case has drawn attention because of the family connection between the parties, with Lakam being Kim’s elder sister. However, the legal proceedings concern the allegations presented before the court, where the evidence and arguments of the parties will be considered according to the applicable rules and procedures.
Kim, meanwhile, continues to be represented by her legal counsel as the case moves forward.
