Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu’s father visited her at the Kamuning Police Station in Quezon City on Wednesday as the family continues to work on securing the bail needed for her release.

According to ABS-CBN News, William Chiu Jr. said the family currently does not have the financial capacity to post the required bail. However, volunteers have stepped in to help them raise funds.
Lakam, 45, remains detained following her arrest on Sunday after she was identified as the No. 6 most wanted person by the Kamuning Police Station.
She is facing 124 counts of qualified theft over alleged financial discrepancies amounting to around P44.4 million involving a company where she and her sister, actress Kim Chiu, are co-stakeholders.

A Quezon City court initially set her bail at P5.8 million. Her lawyer later filed a motion that resulted in a P200,000 reduction, bringing the bail amount to P5.6 million.
William said the family would still struggle to provide the amount even if they opted for a cash bond, which would bring the required amount to approximately P2.9 million.
He also confirmed that volunteers are helping the family raise the funds necessary for Lakam’s possible release.
Meanwhile, Lakam’s lawyer, Dominic Solis, said the legal team is pursuing a surety bond instead. Under this arrangement, a bonding company guarantees the bail amount to the court in exchange for a non-refundable premium.
For a surety bond, the bail remains at P5.6 million.
Solis said the necessary documents are still being processed. Despite the financial difficulties, Lakam’s camp remains hopeful that the court could issue a release order by Thursday.
While waiting for developments in the case, Lakam continued to be held at the Kamuning Police Station on Wednesday.
She also underwent police-mandated medical procedures intended to ensure her health and welfare while in custody.
The latest development comes as Lakam’s family and legal team continue working on the requirements for her potential release.
Lakam Chiu is a private individual and entrepreneur who became a prominent figure in the media as the older sister of famous actress and TV host Kim Chiu. She often stays out of the limelight, though she occasionally draws public attention for her close family ties and supportive presence behind her sister's successful showbiz career.
In another report, the camp of Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu filed a motion asking the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to reduce her recommended P5.8 million bail in her qualified theft case. Her lawyer, Dominic Solis, said Lakam cannot currently afford the full amount and is seeking a reasonable bail that would allow her temporary release.

She danced in a man’s outfit while wearing a fake rounded belly, prompting some fans to speculate that she was joking about the ongoing issue. However, the pregnancy rumors involving Kim and Paulo Avelino remain unconfirmed.
