Lakambini "Lakam" Chiu, the sister of Kapamilya superstar Kim Chiu, was taken into police custody following the service of an arrest warrant.

According to an update from ABS-CBN News reporter Lyza Aquino, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) carried out the arrest at around 4:06 PM in Barangay Wack Wack, Mandaluyong City.

Lakam, 45, was served a warrant of arrest issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 84 for qualified theft involving 124 counts.

The court set her recommended bail at P5,838,000. Following her apprehension, Lakam was placed under police custody and temporarily detained at the Police Station 10 custodial facility while waiting for the court's commitment order.

The charges trace back to December, when Kim took legal action against her sister after discovering major financial discrepancies in their venture, according to an article by Philstar.

Lakam served as an integral figure in running the enterprise, with Kim's legal counsel confirming that she was "part of the management of the business."

Following a formal review of the allegations, the Office of the City Prosecutor determined that there were sufficient grounds to formally indict Lakam on 124 counts of qualified theft.

The rift came as an emotional shock to the public, as the sisters had long shared a very close personal and professional relationship, with Lakam previously assisting Kim in managing her day-to-day showbiz engagements.

Previously, Inquirer even reported that Lakam had hoped to settle the matter with Kim amid the case.

As of reporting, Lakam remains in detention pending the processing of her bail or formal commitments from the handling court.
