Liza Soberano finally addresses those who kept on calling her out, and in some cases, criticize, her way of speaking the Tagalog language for the anime series “Trese.”
The actress said she is aware of the criticisms on her Filipino dubbing of the main character of the series, Alexandra Trese.
According to an ABS-CBN report, there is also an English version of the anime series, with the voice of Canadian actress Shay Mitchell behind the main character.
The actress said she did everything she could to prepare for the dubbing, including speaking Tagalog only at home and on her phone for two weeks.
“I practiced my Tagalog for two weeks straight,” the actress said.
She also tried hard not to speak English with her family and other people.
“I made sure not to speak English as much as possible with my family at home and whenever people would call me on my phone,” Liza revealed.
In a report by Philippine Star, it quoted the actress as saying she would speak Tagalog every time during those two weeks so her tongue would get used to it.
“I would try to use Tagalog talaga para masanay na 'yung tongue ko,” the actress added.
“Trese” is a graphic novel written by Budjette Tan, with illustrations by KaJO Baldisimo.
The story is set in Manila where city dwellers are unaware there are supernatural creatures living among them.
A report by Sunstar stated that authorities who come across mysterious and supernatural cases would seek the help of detective Alexandra Trese.
Hope Elizabeth Soberano, better known as Liza Soberano, is a Fil-Am actress, singer, endorser, and model. She was born in Santa Clara, California, on January 4, 1998 to a Pinoy father, John Castillo Soberano, and American mother, Jacqulyn Elizabeth Hanley. Liza is an American citizen by virtue of her birth, though she applied for and was granted a dual citizenship in the Philippines. She has starred in various TV series and movies, which include Forevermore, Wansapanataym, She’s the One, and Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo, among others.
Liza is very active on social media, particularly when the topic is about social issues, which is something that almost got her into trouble with the government. A month ago, Liza was among the first to send uplifting words to Angel Locsin. This was after the latter took full responsibility for the death of the senior citizen who was lining up at the community pantry she put up. The 23-year-old actress then told Angel that there's no need for her to say sorry. Her comment, however, received backlash which prompted her to explain through tweets.
On the brighter side, the beauty of Liza attracts even foreign artists. Several weeks ago, Thai actor Mario Maurer in a virtual mediacon of TNTCON 2021 revealed that he sees Liza Soberano as girlfriend material, while he considers Bea Alonzo as merely a friend. The Thai actor appeared on the show with two other Thai stars. It was also on the show that Mario learned the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Universe 2020, Rabiya Mateo, is one of his fans. He expressed great joy upon learning that Rabiya is his fan and then proceeded to wish the beauty queen good luck.
