Aira Villegas, a Filipina athlete, has settled for a bronze medal in the women's 50kg boxing at the recent Paris Olympics 2024.

She was dominated by her opponent, Buse Naz Cakiroglu of Turkiye, but Aira's performance at the Olympics still earned praise.

According to the report done by The Philippine Star, three judges have scored the bout 30-27 and 30-26 for the remaining two.

It is worth noting that this is the Philippines' third medal at the Olympics, following Carlos Yulo's double gold medal as per GMA.

Following this news, ABS-CBN reported that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulated Aira on winning the bronze medal.

In his online post, Marcos Jr. said, "Congratulations, Aira! That was a knockout performance in your Olympic debut! You made us all proud and are surely an inspiration to young Filipinas. Thank you for bringing home the bronze."

Yulo overtook Harry Hepworth of Great Britain who scored 14.949. It is worth noting that Carlos is the first Filipino male athlete to bag a gold for the country.

Meanwhile, Carlos Yulo's reward under Megaworld just got upgraded big time. After bagging two gold medals at the Olympics, Carlos will receive a condo unit in Taguig.
