- His wife, China Jocson-Cojuangco, announced his demise in a Facebook post, though did not mention the cause of death

- It can be recalled that Charlie and China got married only in October last year

- Charlie was previously married to the late actress Rio Diaz, the younger sister of Gloria Diaz, who succumbed to cancer in 2004

Tarlac Representative Charlie Cojuangco has passed away on Feb. 22, at the age of 58.

His wife, China Jocson-Cojuangco, whom he married only in October last year, made the announcement on Facebook.

"It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform you that my husband, Claudia and Jaime's father, Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco, has passed away," the wife of Charlie said.

Charlie is the son of the late business tycoon Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco, who also passed away in 2020.

According to ABS-CBN, the family of Charlie issued a separate statement over his passing.

"We feel at peace knowing that he can rest now...We would like to memorialize him by celebrating his wonderful life at The Heritage Memorial Park from Wednesday to Friday, Feb 23 to 25, at 9am to midnight, and in Tarlac on Saturday Feb 26 at 10am to midnight," the statement read as reported by ABS-CBN.

Charlie was previously married to the late actress Rio Diaz, the younger sister of former Ms. Universe Gloria Diaz.

Rio succumbed to colon cancer in 2004, with her death mourned by thousands in the town of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, where she served as its Vice Mayor.

Cojuangco was a principal author of 19 bills and a co-author of 17 other proposed measures in the 18th Congress.

According to the Inquirer news, Charlie served as congressman of the 4th District of Negros Occidental in the 11th, 12th and 13th Congresses, before being elected to represent Tarlac’s 1st District in the 17th and 18th Congress.

Carlos Roberto Santiago Oppen Cojuangco, more popularly known as Charlie Cojuangco, is the youngest son of Ambassador and business tycoon Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco and Gretchen Montilla Oppen. Charlie previously served as mayor of the town of Pontevedra in Negros Occidental, where his family owned thousands of hectares of land. He subsequently became congressman of the 4th district of Negros Occidental, and later as Tarlac 1st district Representative. Charlie is previously married to Rio Diaz, the younger sister of Gloria Diaz. The younger Diaz succumbed to cancer in 2004. Charlie, on the other hand, remarried in October of last year to China Jocson.
