According to police, nobody was home because the owner was at work. Investigators said the suspects gained entry by damaging the section where an air-conditioning unit was installed.
“Doon sinira talaga nila yung bakal para maka-entry sila doon sa loob ng bahay,” a police officer explained in the report.
The burglary was discovered after the air-conditioning unit in the bedroom was noticed to have fallen from its position. Police later conducted a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of one of the suspects.
Investigators said reviewing CCTV footage helped them trace the men’s movements. Barangay personnel also assisted in identifying the two, whom police described as residents of the same barangay.
“Through sa tulong ng ating mga CCTV, yung backtracking natin,” the officer said while explaining how investigators worked to identify those involved.
The report stated that the arrested suspect had previously been apprehended for theft when he was still a minor. This information was presented as part of the police account of his background.
During his interview, the young man admitted his involvement and said a friend had invited him to join.
“Nayaya lang po ako ng barkada,” he said.
He also asked for forgiveness from the people affected and cited hardship as his reason for participating.
“Humihingi po ng ano, kapatawaran po sa mga nagawa ko sa kanya, sa kanila po, dahil gawa lang din po ng kahirapan. Kaya ko po nagawa ’yun,” he said.
His admission came as police reported recovering the two stolen cellphones from him. The jewelry, valued at P50,000, had not been recovered by the time the news segment aired.
Authorities said a robbery complaint had been filed against the arrested suspect. Their search for his alleged accomplice was continuing.
