According to a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the fire broke out along E. Mendoza Street shortly after 1 a.m., alarming residents as flames rapidly consumed the house. Videos of the incident also captured electrical wires bursting amid the blaze.
Five people inside the residence were able to evacuate safely. However, the senior citizen remained trapped in her bedroom because of her condition.
Jigs Servillon, the Buting barangay captain and a relative of the affected family, described the family's desperate attempt to reach the elderly woman after hearing an explosion from her room.

The family reportedly encountered thick smoke and flames when they finally managed to open the bedroom door, preventing the victim from escaping.
Authorities subsequently conducted retrieval operations to recover the woman's remains from the burned property.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the ancestral house was constructed using concrete materials. Despite the severity of the fire, the flames did not spread to neighboring homes because a firewall separated the closely built structures.
Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control at approximately 3:10 a.m.
Investigators are still determining what caused the fire and calculating the total cost of the damage. The incident has left the family grieving the loss of an elderly relative who had been unable to leave her bed and was only weeks away from another birthday.
In another report, authorities in Rodriguez, Rizal, recovered a man's body inside a discarded mattress dumped into a deep ravine on a Saturday afternoon. A village patrolman searching for recyclable materials discovered the gruesome scene after noticing human feet sticking out of the bedding. The victim had a deep wound on his neck, his wrists were tied together, and his face was covered with adhesive tape. Police are investigating the case to identify the victim and locate those responsible for his death.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old businessman was shot dead outside his motorcycle shop in Barangay Longos, Caloocan City, shortly before 11 p.m. on a Monday. The incident followed reports from residents who heard two gunshots in the area. Responding police officers found the victim dead from a gunshot wound to the head, while his relatives said they had no idea why he was attacked. Investigators are searching for nearby CCTV footage that could help identify the gunmen, although police have yet to release an official report on the incident.
