The incident happened on Vitas Street shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, when the teenager, identified by the alias Cherry, was walking home alone. The suspect allegedly approached her and forcibly took her phone.
Cherry attempted to pursue the man, but he appeared to threaten her with a weapon concealed near his side, prompting her to stop chasing him. Police said the teenager did not immediately report the robbery.

Despite the suspect’s family reportedly promising to return the cellphone, Cherry’s brother said they would proceed with filing a complaint. He stressed that the incident had affected his sister beyond the loss of her belongings.
“Pasensiyahan po tayo, itutuloy ko talaga ito kasi hindi lang naman cellphone 'yung nawala sa kapatid ko. 'Yung mental health naapektuhan din,” the victim’s brother said.
The suspect admitted to the crime and apologized to the teenager. He claimed that his six-year-old child might have leukemia and that he needed money to cover the child’s expenses.
“Sa laboratory, mataas daw 'yung puti sa sa pula. Mahina 'yung tuhod. Kailangan mabalik 'yung ano niya para mabalik 'yung lakas niya. Patawarin niyo na lang ako, ganiyan. Kailangan ko lang ng pera din ng araw na ‘yon,” the suspect explained.
The Manila Police District also reported that the suspect had previously been involved in theft and drug-related cases. He is set to face a robbery complaint.
