Two minors were injured after a basketball championship in Barangay 135, Tondo, Manila reportedly turned chaotic, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto on GMA News' Unang Balita.

The incident happened on Sunday night during the barangay basketball league's championship game.

According to the report, the trouble allegedly started after one of the minors and an SK kagawad bumped into each other during the fourth quarter of the game.

The teenager reportedly ran home and told his family what happened. His relatives then went to the barangay hall to speak with the other side, but another commotion allegedly broke out.

One of the victims was reportedly punched and placed in a headlock during the confrontation.

His mother claimed that the man involved was an off-duty police officer who was also playing in the basketball league.

“Nasuntok niya din po 'yung anak ko, tapos nasakal po, niyakap niya, tapos bigla niya pong sinuntok,” the mother said in the report.

Another minor was allegedly struck on the hand with a dustpan during the incident.

The teenager's mother said her son later complained of pain in his head and hand. She also claimed that he experienced nausea after what happened.

“Sumasakit po 'yung ulo niya, tapos may time na nasusuka siya. Masakit po 'yung kamay niya doon sa pagkakapalo nung dustpan,” she said.

The man accused of hitting the teenager with the dustpan did not face the camera but explained his side to GMA News.

According to him, he was only defending his sibling, who is a member of the Sangguniang Kabataan. He claimed that the victims' group appeared ready to hurt his sibling.

Meanwhile, the barangay said the police officer denied hurting anyone.

The officer reportedly maintained that he only tried to stop the fight and held one of the teenagers to prevent him from getting hurt further.

GMA News said it was still trying to obtain a direct statement from the police officer regarding the allegations.

The incident also affected a woman who was merely watching the basketball game.

According to the barangay, she was hit by pieces of broken glass after a bottle was allegedly thrown by the group of minors involved in the commotion.

The parents of the two teenagers have already filed formal complaints with the police against the off-duty officer and the SK kagawad reportedly involved in the incident.

Despite what happened, barangay officials said they still plan to complete the basketball championship. They added that security would be tightened to prevent another similar incident.
