A senior bank teller in Pasig City is now behind bars after she was accused of embezzling a staggering ₱4.4 million from a 69-year-old businessman’s account.

The act was accidentally exposed when the unsuspecting client visited his local C. Raymundo Avenue branch to simply check on a missing ₱46,000 interest payment, only to discover that his ₱5 million savings had been nearly wiped clean.

According to a news report by ABS-CBN News, the missing minor transaction on September 10 prompted branch management to ask the client to return four days later for a deeper internal review.

The subsequent investigation revealed the heartbreaking reality that the expected balance of the depositor had allegedly drastically plummeted to just ₱600,161.26.

An urgent internal probe, which included reviewing financial records and closed-circuit television footage, quickly zeroed in on the senior bank teller.

As the regular employee who consistently handled the victim's over-the-counter transactions, she became the primary suspect in the alarming multi-million-peso discrepancy.

The intense pressure of the internal investigation ultimately broke the suspect's silence. During an administrative hearing conducted by the bank's Human Resources department, the 34-year-old teller fully confessed to orchestrating the massive heist.

She admitted to taking the money and repeatedly forging the victim's specimen signature to successfully bypass the bank's strict withdrawal protocols.

Following her shocking admission, bank management acted swiftly. Accompanied by the devastated complainant, branch personnel escorted the erring employee directly to the Rosario Police Sub-Station, where she was formally placed under arrest.

She was subsequently transferred to the Pasig City Police Station for proper processing.
