His companion then allegedly targeted the coin compartment of a nearby hot and cold water vending machine. The suspects immediately left the area after getting the money.
The owner estimated that more than P2,000 worth of coins was taken from the two machines.
According to the victim, they initially did not suspect anything when they noticed the men near the machines.
“Hindi namin sinaway kasi akala namin mag-iigib ng tubig,” the owner said.
It was only the following morning that they checked the security footage and discovered what had happened.
“Kinabukasan nung paggising namin nag-review na kami ng CCTV. Na-confirm nga namin na ninakawan na nga,” the victim added.
The footage showed that tools were allegedly used to force open the payment compartment of the water vending machine. The padlock of the second machine was also reportedly damaged.
After discovering the incident, the owner posted the CCTV footage online and reported the matter to Barangays 8 and 12.
The victim said several people later sent messages claiming they recognized the suspects. Authorities, however, continued their own efforts to locate the individuals involved.
Barangay 12 officials said they immediately acted on the report and began looking for the suspects. Police later arrested one of the men seen in the video, identified in the report as alias “Dodong.”
According to authorities, he was arrested several hours after the vending machine incident in connection with other cases. Police also said he had a previous theft case.
He is currently detained at Police Substation 4. Authorities are still searching for the other suspect seen in the CCTV footage.
