Three Chinese nationals have been arrested following an alleged kidnapping attempt involving another Chinese national in Angeles, Pampanga, with the suspects reportedly demanding a $1 million ransom.

The incident was featured in a report by John Consulta on “24 Oras Weekend” on Saturday, showing how a white van suddenly blocked a black SUV that was reversing near an establishment.
Five armed men then reportedly emerged from the van, approached the SUV, pointed their weapons at the driver, and forcibly pulled him out before taking him into their vehicle.
Police later determined that both the victim and the armed men were Chinese nationals. Police Brigadier General Jess Mendez, regional director of PRO3, described the operation as swift and organized.

“Inabangan nila at noong nakasakay na sila sa van, nu’ng paalis na itong sasakyan, nu’ng sumakay na ng sasakyan itong Chinese, isa doon sa mga suspek ay nakasuot ng camouflage,” Mendez said.
Authorities said the suspects transferred the victim between vehicles before bringing him to a prepared safe house.
The victim was eventually rescued by PNP Region 3 and the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group after he managed to escape from one of the group’s safe houses in Mabalacat, Pampanga. He was reportedly still wearing handcuffs when authorities found him.
A follow-up operation conducted the next day in Tarlac City led to the arrest of three of the five alleged kidnappers. A Filipina who reportedly rented the white van used in the abduction was also arrested.
Police said the victim had only been in the Philippines for nine days when he was kidnapped. He also has relatives in the country.
Mendez said investigators learned that one suspect allegedly had a previous case in China involving an illegal ga&mbling scam, while another was reportedly described as a drug addict.
The suspects have not yet issued statements regarding the allegations.
The arrested individuals were turned over to the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group and face kidnapping complaints before the Department of Justice.

Meanwhile, Pasig City barangay tanod Marlon Sabandal was fatally shot while attempting to stop a street brawl in the early hours of July 12. Sabandal and fellow responders were trying to intervene and break up the altercation when he was shot. Police later said that two individuals allegedly associated with the suspected gunman had already been arrested.
