SAN CARLOS CITY, Negros Occidental — The Department of Education's Schools Division Office of San Carlos has released an official statement following a stabbing incident involving a Grade 9 learner of Julio Ledesma National High School (JLNHS).

According to the statement, the incident took place outside the school premises on the afternoon of June 23, 2026. The agency said it immediately coordinated with school officials after learning about the situation to ensure the safety and welfare of the learner and the broader school community.

“The Schools Division Office of San Carlos acknowledges the incident involving a Grade 9 learner of Julio Ledesma National High School (JLNHS) that occurred outside the school premises on the afternoon of June 23, 2026.”

Education officials emphasized that efforts had already been made by the school to address concerns related to student safety before the incident happened.

“Upon learning about the incident, the Schools Division Office, in coordination with the school administration, immediately took appropriate steps to ensure the safety, protection, and well-being of the learner and the entire school community.”

The statement also revealed that the school had previously conducted class discussions and debriefing activities aimed at raising awareness about learner safety and encouraging students to seek guidance from trusted adults whenever concerns arise.

A significant detail disclosed by the Schools Division Office involved information reportedly shared by the learner before the stabbing incident occurred.

“Prior to the incident, the learner shared with a teacher a concern regarding a possible threat involving other students.”

School authorities said arrangements had already been made for a more detailed discussion during the school day. However, events unfolded before that conversation could take place.

“Arrangements were made for the matter to be discussed further during the school day; however, before the follow-up conversation could take place, classes were dismissed.”

The agency noted that the incident later happened outside school grounds and that investigators are currently reviewing all relevant circumstances surrounding the case.

“The incident subsequently occurred outside the school premises.”

As the investigation continues, the Schools Division Office said it remains in close coordination with school officials, parents, and concerned authorities.

“The Schools Division Office continues to closely monitor the situation and is working with the school administration, parents, and concerned authorities as the investigation proceeds.”

The agency likewise assured the public that due process will be observed while prioritizing the welfare of the learner involved.

To prevent similar incidents, school officials said additional security measures and stronger coordination systems are now being implemented. Support interventions focusing on safety, protection, and psychosocial well-being are also being provided to members of the school community.

The Schools Division Office further urged parents and guardians to maintain open communication with their children and remain actively involved in matters affecting their safety.
