According to a report by the Inquirer, Sonza was arrested on Thursday evening, April 30, 2026, in Quezon City. The arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.

The cyberlibel case against the former broadcaster involves allegations that he spread fake medical records concerning President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. NBI Director Melvin Matibag confirmed the operation during a phone interview with Inquirer, stating that the arrest had taken place a few minutes ago.

Following the incident, Sonza's legal counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, released a statement, saying that he would be heading to the NBI to ensure that his client's rights are respected, particularly noting Sonza's status as a senior citizen.

"We will not let any violation pass. We will monitor every step. We will take action if necessary," Tolentino said.

The legal trouble for Sonza began back in February when the NBI filed cyberlibel complaints against him and vlogger Jeffrey "Ka Eric" Luces Celiz. The bureau has been investigating the origin and spread of the alleged falsified documents. As of now, Sonza remains under the custody of the NBI as the legal process continues.
