Authorities arrested two men in an entrapment operation in Sampaloc, Manila, after allegedly luring women into a disturbing scheme they called “Hirap o Sarap.”

Police said the suspects pretended to be members of a supposed group that was recruiting new participants.

Their modus targeted unsuspecting women, who were either subjected to burning with cigarettes or s3xually exploited if they refused to comply with the suspects’ demands, News5 reported.

The entrapment was set up after victims reported the scheme to local authorities.

Undercover operatives coordinated with the women to arrange a meeting with the suspects, which led to their immediate arrest.

Recovered from the men were items allegedly used to threaten and intimidate their victims.

Law enforcers stressed that the case highlights the need for vigilance, especially among women in urban areas where predatory groups often operate under the guise of recruitment or social activities.

Investigators are also looking into whether the suspects are connected to a wider network that preys on vulnerable individuals.

Community leaders in Sampaloc have condemned the incident, urging residents to report similar suspicious activities to prevent further exploitation.

This arrest follows a series of recent cases in the country involving gender-based violence and exploitation.

Just weeks ago, police in Iloilo apprehended a traffic enforcer accused of extorting money from a driver, while in Pangasinan, a barangay official was shot dead inside a barangay hall—incidents that underscore ongoing public safety concerns.

The suspects are now in police custody as charges are being prepared against them.
