A young barangay chairman, aged 25, was killed in a brazen ambush in Malabang, Lanao del Sur, on Wednesday morning.

The victim, identified as Binhar Jalambre Alon Jawad, who served as the barangay captain of Barangay Baraas in the municipality of Picong, Lanao del Sur, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
According to a report by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Thursday, Jawad was en route to a graduation ceremony along with a companion, 20-year-old Norhan Sarip, when they were attacked.
The incident occurred on a diversion road in Barangay Montay, Malabang. Jawad was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital, while Sarip sustained injuries in the attack.

Initial police investigations indicate that the two were traveling in a sport utility vehicle (SUV) when they were waylaid by unidentified assailants.
