Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero responded to questions regarding Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa.

During a press conference, Sen. Chiz stated that Sen. Bato may seek refuge inside the Senate as an "institutional courtesy."

However, he clarified that while this is not explicitly stated in the law, it has been a long-standing practice of the Senate.

Sen. Chiz also cited past instances where the Senate extended assistance to senators facing pending arrest warrants.

“Ito’y ibat-ibang sitwasyong kinaharap ng Senado kung saan may kaso laban sa kanila at ang naging pasya ng Senado ay ito: Hindi nakabase sa batas pero nakabase sa tinatawag na institutional courtesy—hindi papayagan ng Senado [na] arestuhin ang sinomang miyembro niya sa loob ng Senado lalo na kung may sesyon,” Sen. Chiz said. “Ang isang sinabi ko sa kanya [One thing I told him], we will try to afford him every opportunity to avail of legal remedies that he is entitled to.”

Francis "Chiz" Escudero is a Filipino politician and lawyer who became the 25th President of the Philippine Senate on May 20, 2024, succeeding Juan Miguel Zubiri. Born on October 10, 1969, Escudero has had a distinguished political career, serving as a senator from 2007 to 2019 and again since 2022, as well as governor of Sorsogon from 2019 to 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the Philippines and a Master of Laws from Georgetown University. In February 2025, under his leadership, the Senate prepared to convene as an impeachment court to address charges against Vice President Sara Duterte, with proceedings set to commence after Congress reconvenes in June.

In a previous report by KAMI, Davao City Mayor, Sebastian 'Baste' Duterte went to his father's house in the said city. Together with their family's supporters and lawyers, Mayor Baste guarded his old man's house. In a report by GMA 7's 'Unang Balita,' Mayor Duterte said he received information that his father's house will be raided by authorities. Although he was happy with the support shown by people, Baste encouraged their supporters to go home and rest since there were already lawyers present in the premises.

Additionally, Senator Francis 'Tol' Tolentino shared his opinion about the recent arrest of the former president, Rodrigo Duterte. On March 13, a video of what seemed to be a one-on-one interview with Sen. Tolentino, he was asked what his stand about the arrest as a Filipino was. He said he was sad about the arrest, knowing that FPRRD was taken to a different country to be prosecuted and possibly be judged. The senator also pointed out the age and health condition of FPRRD.
