Randy delos Santos, the uncle of Kian delos Santos, a 17-year-old boy who was killed during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war remarked on Tuesday that Duterte is "fortunate" to be granted due process following his arrest on an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.

Kian was fatally shot during a police operation in Caloocan City in August 2017.
Randy noted that the former president is now experiencing the legal protections that many drug war victims were allegedly denied.

Duterte is facing charges of crimes against humanity before the ICC due to his administration’s violent anti-drug campaign.
Kian’s case became one of the most notorious incidents linked to the war on dr&gs.
Security footage disproved police claims that the teenager had resisted arrest, showing officers dragging him into an alley just before he was shot.
A court later found three police officers guilty of murder in connection with Kian’s death.
According to Randy, his nephew never had the chance to prove his innocence.
"Ang aking pamangkin ay hindi na dinala sa korte. Ang daming akusasyon na ibinato. Tapos pinatay (My nephew was never brought to court. Many accusations were thrown. Then he was killed)," he said.
andy described Duterte’s arrest as a long-overdue step toward justice.
"Hinintay ito ng pamilya. Hindi lang ito para sa amin, para rin ito sa mga pamilya na naging biktima (The family waited for this. This is not just for us, it's also for the families who became victims)," he said.

In a video shared by GMA News, CIDG chief, Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, is seen reciting the Miranda Doctrine to the former president. The reading of the Miranda rights is a standard procedure for persons being arrested to ensure that the latter fully understands their rights upon their arrest. It can be recalled that the International Police (InterPol) has confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court against the former president.
An earlier video showing former President Rodrigo Duterte’s longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña, seemingly trying to prevent the former leader from being taken into custody has gone viral. The video, which was posted on the social media page of their daughter, Veronica or Kitty Duterte and shared by ABS-CBN news on its own page, has since then gone viral. The said video also captured snippets of conversations between Avanceña and the former leader. As of this writing, the video has gained 1.2 million views with 5.4K comments and 29K reacts.
