A man who was about to pay P5.5 million in cash for a sports car fell victim to an alleged scam, losing his money to individuals who posed as Bureau of Customs personnel.

According to a 24 Oras report from GMA News, the victim had arranged a meeting with two individuals after finding an advertisement for the sports car online.
The suspects claimed to be representatives from the Bureau of Customs, adding a sense of legitimacy to the transaction.
P/BGen. Thomas Ibay, District Director of the Manila Police, stated that the suspects requested the victim to count the money in their presence before they would release the vehicle.

Trusting them, the victim complied.
However, in a shocking turn of events, after the cash was placed inside an envelope, the victim later discovered that the money had been replaced with mere sheets of paper.
By the time he realized what had happened, the suspects had already vanished.
Authorities quickly launched a follow-up operation, which led to the arrest of one of the suspects. Meanwhile, his female companion remains at large.
The incident serves as a stark warning about online transactions involving large sums of money.
Authorities urge the public to exercise extreme caution and verify the legitimacy of sellers, especially when dealing with high-value items such as vehicles.
Investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspect and recover the stolen amount.
