A man was arrested after he was allegedly caught stealing rice from a store along Quezon Street in Barangay Población 1, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

The incident, which took place on February 16, has sparked mixed reactions from netizens.

According to a report from iFM Bacolod 943, the suspect, identified only by the alias “Ro,” is a 24-year-old resident of the area.

Based on the police report, the store owner was attending to his customers when he noticed the suspect discreetly taking two sacks of rice valued at P5,000.

Upon realizing what was happening, the store owner immediately alerted the authorities.

Responding officers arrived at the scene and swiftly apprehended the suspect.

He is now being held at the Sagay City Police Station, where he may face theft charges.

Following the incident, public opinion has been divided.

Many netizens expressed sympathy for the suspect, suggesting that desperation and hunger might have driven him to commit the act.

Some users commented that economic struggles and poverty often push people into making difficult choices, and that the government should address the root causes of such crimes.

However, others strongly disagreed, arguing that stealing can never be justified, regardless of a person’s circumstances.
