A 26-year-old mother was caught red-handed as she tried to sell her newborn baby for P40,000, at a lying-in clinic in Caloocan City, a day after she gave birth.

Based on the report of 24 Oras, the woman put up her newborn for sale on social media, which authorities were able to monitor.

The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group headed the entrapment operation.

A PNP spokesperson said that the mother stated that she needed the money for the maintenance medicines of her father and she is unemployed, hence, she does not have the means to raise the baby.

She also said the father of the baby does not even know that she is going to give birth.

The mother did not comment on her arrest nor on her attempt to sell her baby.
