Her statement caught the attention of host Ogie Alcasid, who agreed with her message.
"Makatotohanan," Ogie remarked in response.
Apart from discussing the importance of making informed choices when voting, Pura also shared her thoughts on freedom of expression during another portion of the competition.
She was asked whether the Land Transportation Office (LTO) should issue her a ticket if her mouth had no brakes, prompting her to explain why she believed such a penalty would not apply to her.
"I believe that I should not be issued a ticket by the LTO if my mouth has no brakes because I am not a vehicle."
Pura then expanded on her answer by highlighting the importance of protecting people's right to express their thoughts and beliefs.
“Second, we have freedom of speech. We need to protect it. We need to not censor our thoughts, our beliefs, our understanding of the world," she added.
She further suggested that instead of penalizing people for speaking their minds, society should encourage individuals to express themselves.
Although Pura successfully advanced past the segment's Wit Lang Round, she did not take home the daily crown. Candidate number one, Leoki Inokuma Ganacias, was declared the winner of the day's competition.
Pura's appearance also brought attention to her previous controversies, particularly her drag performance depicting Jesus Christ, during which she used the song "Ama Namin."
The performance previously sparked widespread criticism and discussions about the boundaries between artistic expression, religious beliefs, and freedom of speech.
Through her latest appearance, Pura once again shared her views on an issue that continues to generate public discussion, particularly the importance of allowing people to express their beliefs while encouraging young Filipinos to become more discerning when choosing their leaders.
Pura Luka Vega is a Filipino drag performer who rose to prominence as a contestant on the first season of Drag Den. They later came into widespread public attention following a controversial 2023 drag performance dressed as Jesus Christ.
In another report, Pura Luka Vega drew attention after making a surprise appearance at a religious gathering in San Juan City, where the drag artist participated in a sacred ritual. Photos shared by the Open Table Metropolitan Community Church showed Pura helping distribute communion to attendees. The event was organized by a progressive community group as part of a special June celebration. The appearance also came after Pura's previous legal troubles over controversial performances were dismissed.
Meanwhile, a Quezon City court dismissed three criminal cases filed against Pura Luka Vega over the drag artist's controversial performance. The court granted the defense's demurrer to evidence after finding the prosecution's evidence insufficient. Its decision cited the failure to authenticate a key video and the complainants' lack of legal standing to file the cases. However, Pura continues to face other legal challenges in different cities related to the same performance.
