Mayor Liseldo Calugay of Sual, Pangasinan, who was rumored to be the boyfriend of Alice Guo faced the senate.

He addressed questions about his alleged relationship with the dismissed mayor.

He said that he was not in a relationship with Guo.

"Friends lang po," the mayor said during the hearing.

The senators presented photos of both Alice and Mayor Calugay together, but the latter maintained his position on the matter.

Senators Risa Hontiveros, Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva were among those who questioned the mayor.

Alice Leal Guo is the Mayor of the Municipality of Bamban, Tarlac. She won as mayor during the national elections in 2022. She became known nationwide after her name was dragged into the ongoing Senate investigations regarding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO) and the alleged proliferation of illegal immigrants. Her name has been the subject of many online memes since then.

In a previous report by KAMI, Alice Guo’s photo shared by the National Bureau of Investigation is currently viral. The photo by the NBI shows the dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor, smiling while posing for a selfie. It was captured while she was being escorted to the immigration office in Indonesia. It is worth noting that Indonesian authorities officially turned over Guo to the Philippine officials on Thursday.

Additionally, Alice Guo was personally reprimanded by Senator Joel Villanueva in the ongoing hearing of the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality. In an opening statement, Sen. Joel vented out his frustration against Guo for insulting the entire government. He also expressed frustration at the fact that when Guo was apprehended, it would seem to him like Guo did not show any concern. Senator Joel ended his statement by saying that he and his colleagues in the government were offended by Guo.
