Rep. Stella Quimbo did not mince words when she responded to the request of VP Sara Duterte that the chair of the finance committee preside over the hearing.
"I request that the chairperson of the finance committee preside over this hearing," Duterte stated.
Quimbo did not budge but gave an equally feisty retort, where she asked the vice president to act in a respectful manner, emphasizing that firing the presiding officer is not within her purview.
"May I remind also our resource persons to please act in a respectful manner. Pasensiya na po, hindi po kasama sa poder ninyo ang pagfa-fire ng presiding officer ng hearing na ito."

During the Senate hearing for the proposed budget of the Office of the Vice President, heated words were exchanged between VP Sara Duterte and Sen. Risa Hontiveros. Earlier, Sen. Hontiveros asked the OVP on why they should be given budget for programs that are already undertaken by line agencies. After a few questions, Sen. Risa asked the OVP about the book “Isang Kaibigan,” which reportedly had a budget of P10 million. From then on, the exchange became heated with allegations about the past 2016 elections dragged into the conversation.
In another news, Sen. Risa made a privilege speech where she revealed that former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo already left the country on July 17. According to Sen. Risa, Guo entered Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 18 and from there, went to Singapore to meet up with her family. Sen. Risa then asked on how was Guo able to evade the watchful eyes of the government and who helped her. The legislator then requested for an in-depth investigation into the matter and who was Guo's accomplice.
