The mother of the victim was full of grief while answering questions posed by media personnel.
“Hinahanap ko po yan kanina pa. Anak ko po yun. Karamay ko po yan sa hanapbuhay ko,” the victim’s mom said.
According to Barangay Valencia Kagawad Cecille Santos-Rivera, the last time they experienced floodwaters as massive as the ones they experienced today was way back in 2009 during typhoon Ondoy.
She said that perhaps due to the strong current of the flood, the steel barriers on the bridge got destroyed and swept the victim away.
“ Siguro lumusot sa mga bakal sa harang sa tulay dahil sa lakas ng current,” Kgd. Santos-Rivera said.
As of this writing, there are still many locations in the Greater Manila Area that are submerged due to flooding brought about by the heavy downpour of typhoon Carina.
News, photos or videos that arouse the interest of netizens would often go viral on social media. These viral posts appeal to the emotions of netizens, and in rare cases, such could also happen to ordinary people.
In Bulacan, the floodwaters beneath the Marilao Bridge has reached the roofs of houses. A video was provided by Sen. Joel Villanueva and it was shared by Nimfa Ravelo of DZBB and also of GMA Integrated News. The video showed that only the heads of the people on the road could be seen rising above the floodwaters. Some had to swim just to get across from one house to another.
Meanwhile, more than 10 individuals were trapped under the Pasong Tamo Bridge in Mindanao Avenue due to the rising waters. Among the 10 were four children, and rescuers were working on the double to get them out. ABS-CBN reported that there were already three who have been rescued. They are still trying to rescue the remaining people who were trapped under the bridge.
