The senator spoke out after a host of the Machong Chismisan podcast allegedly described Josh as useless and compared him with his brother, Bimby, in an episode that has since been deleted.

Josh is one of the sons of actress Kris Aquino and is on the autism spectrum. Bam stressed that mocking people with disabilities is unacceptable and that public figures and ordinary citizens alike should treat them with dignity.

“Ang totoong macho, hindi minamaliit yung mga taong may kapansanan. I think there might be some legal things already being done, but si Josh, si Bimby, napakabait nila. They're good, good Filipinos, they're good kids and walang karapatan ang sino mang tao na magmaliit sa mga taong may kapansanan. That's very clear."

“Nakita naman natin sa dami ng mga tao na nagsalita para rin sa kanila, klaro naman sa mga Pilipino na hindi ka dapat namemerwisyo ng mga taong may kapansanan. That's basic and that's decency sa ating bansa,” he added.

Bam's statement underscored the importance of recognizing the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities, particularly when they become targets of hurtful public commentary.

The senator also pointed to the support expressed by people who spoke up following the controversy. He noted that the public's response reflected a broader understanding that individuals with disabilities should not be subjected to disrespectful treatment.

Rather than limiting his remarks to the incident involving his nephew, Bam made it clear that his position applies to the entire disability community.

“So, hindi lang para kay Josh, pero sa lahat ng mga taong may kapansanan ang kailangan, suportahan sila, kailangan bigyan sila ng lahat ng maibibigay natin. Hindi dapat sila minamaliit,” the lawmaker said.

His message extended beyond the family dispute, serving as an appeal for Filipinos to reject discriminatory attitudes and stand up for people who are unfairly targeted.
