Comedian and director John “Sweet” Lapus has expressed his sadness over the online mockery of Joshua Aquino, the eldest son of Kris Aquino, in a now-deleted podcast episode.

In a video shared by Inquirer.net, Sweet spoke to members of the media about the controversy surrounding the podcast titled “Machong Chismisan.” Although he had not watched the entire episode, the veteran comedian said he was already affected after learning what had happened to Josh.
Sweet stressed that making fun of Josh, who has special needs, was wrong. He also emphasized that people on the autism spectrum deserve love, understanding, and care rather than being treated as a source of entertainment.
“Hindi ko pa nakikita ’yung video, pero nang sabihin lang sa akin ang nangyari, nalungkot na ako. I love Josh so very much, or any people na nasa spectrum, they should be loved. They’re special.”

He continued, “Kaya nga special person ang tawag sa kanila. Special sila, di ba? Hindi sila dapat pinagtatawanan o ginagawang punchline. Dapat silang minamahal at inaaruga.”
The comedian and director also criticized the people involved in the podcast for what he described as insensitive behavior. While he clarified that he did not intend to pick a fight with them, he hoped that their friends would help them understand why their actions were inappropriate.

“Ayoko naman silang awayin o patulan pa, but napaka-insensitive. I hope sabihin ng mga kaibigan nilang nakakaalam nitong sinasabi ko na maging mas sensitive sila tungkol dito, kasi mali ’yon.”
Kris Aquino is one of the most recognizable figures in Philippine media, having built a long career as a television host, actress, and producer while belonging to a prominent political family. She is the youngest child of the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino, and the sister of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Known for her candid personality and strong on-screen presence, she earned the nickname “Queen of All Media” after leading numerous talk shows, game shows, and films. Her filmography includes box-office horror hits Feng Shui and Sukob.
In another report, fashion designer Michael Leyva took to Instagram to condemn the podcast hosts’ comments about Josh Aquino. He stressed that making fun of Josh and his condition was unacceptable and should not be dismissed. Michael described Josh as a kind and intelligent person who deserves compassion and respect. He also noted that deleting the controversial episode from YouTube would not erase its impact on social media.
Meanwhile, Mama Loi defended Josh following the controversy surrounding the viral podcast. She praised his character and the good values Kris Aquino had instilled in him, including his faith in God, kindness, respect for others, and dedication to caring for his mother. Mama Loi also emphasized Josh’s worth as an individual and called attention to the unfair criticism directed at him.
