The controversy centered on the episode titled “S29E20: Ang Pagbabalik ni Kris Aquino,” which drew criticism over comments concerning a person with a disability. The episode had already been taken down while the network assessed the situation.
In its October 14 statement, The Pod Network acknowledged the concerns raised by listeners and emphasized the importance of treating people with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals with dignity and respect.
“We have received concerns from listeners about remarks made about a person with a disability in a recent episode of Machong Chismisan.
“We take these concerns seriously. Persons with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals deserve dignity and respect, and that includes how they are talked about on our shows. We are sorry for the hust this has caused.”
The network also clarified that although its creators are free to express their individual views, it still has a responsibility to consider the content it distributes to the public.
“Our creators speak in their own voices, and their views do not reflect those of the network. But as the platform that carries their shows, we should still be mindful of what we share with the public.”
At the time, the company said it was reviewing how the episode had been published and working to strengthen its internal processes. It also outlined plans to establish editorial guidelines for all podcasts under its management, particularly when dealing with sensitive subjects.
“We are aware of the episode in question. We are reviewing how this episode was published and strengthening our processes. The episode has been taken down while we review it. We are formalizing editorial guidelines across all TPN shows on how we handle disability, mental health, minors, and family members of public figures, and other sensitive topics.”
The statement concluded with a message of appreciation to those who raised their concerns.
