The Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) confirmed the formation of a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) dedicated to identifying those responsible for the killing. Loterte was taken to a hospital following the attack but later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, Loterte was known for criticizing alleged illegal activities involving politicians and some businesspeople. Investigators are looking into whether his work as a broadcaster may have played a role in the fatal shooting.
Closed-circuit television footage reportedly captured the suspect fleeing the scene immediately after the attack. The individual was seen running toward a motorcycle that was waiting nearby, suggesting a possible means of escape.

Police have yet to establish the identity of the gunman and determine who may have ordered or planned the killing. Authorities are gathering evidence and examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to establish a clear motive.
In a separate statement, PRO-5 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Randy Glenn Silvio vowed that law enforcement would pursue those behind Loterte's death and hold them accountable.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) also disclosed that it had not received any reports of threats against the broadcaster before the shooting. Despite this, investigators are examining different possible motives as they work to establish what led to the attack.
Among the angles being considered are circumstances connected to Loterte's personal life and professional activities. Authorities have not yet confirmed which, if either, may have prompted the killing.
The creation of the SITG is intended to focus investigative efforts on the case and help establish the identities of the suspects. Police have pledged to continue pursuing leads as the investigation progresses.
