During her appearance on Chika Cart on Friday, October 9, Yasmien recalled how she discovered her daughter's struggles after a teacher informed her that Ayesha had cried following a school incident in December 2024.
The actress said her daughter initially kept the experience a secret, prompting her to find out what had happened.
“Sabi ko sa kaniya alam ko na 'yung nangyari, nagsinungaling na ako. Doon na siya nag-open up. Nalaman ko na it has been going on ever since before pa. 'Yung nangyaring lahat; naospital siya noong September noong 2024, lahat na 'yon anxiety [na pala], lahat pala 'yon pambu-bully [na] sa kaniya,” she emphasized.

According to Yasmien, Ayesha had been experiencing bullying since 2022. The child was hospitalized for two weeks in September 2024 after suffering from stomach pain, vomiting, and anxiety. Yasmien also required hospitalization after experiencing severe stress that resulted in urticaria.
The situation reportedly worsened in December 2024 when several students allegedly ganged up on Ayesha. Yasmien also recounted an incident during recess when her daughter was allegedly pressured to apologize and say negative things about herself before being allowed to eat.
The actress said she had requested that her daughter not be placed in the same section as students involved in an earlier incident. However, she was surprised to learn that one of them was still in Ayesha's Grade 7 section.
Yasmien also expressed disappointment that a promised meeting with the parents of the students involved never took place.
“Walang meeting na nangyari, nando'n ako for two days. Ang sabi sa akin, magmi-meet, pero wala pong nangyaring gano'n.”
Following the incidents, Yasmien submitted photographs and video footage to the Department of Education, seeking appropriate administrative action against those involved.
The experience also motivated her to pursue legal studies, saying she wanted to gain the knowledge necessary to defend herself and her loved ones.
“Yes ito 'yung dahilan. Dito ako na-inspire. Na-realize ko na as an actress, tayo mismo, target tayo ng mga controversies. Tina-target tayo ng maraming bagay. To be able to protect my family and myself, it's nice also to study the law para in the future, I can also protect myself and my family against those people na gustong mag-abuso sa'yo,” she explained.
In 2025, Yasmien transferred Ayesha from her former school and enrolled her in a homeschooling program. She also arranged six months of continuous therapy to help her daughter cope with anxiety and panic attacks.
Despite the difficult experience, Yasmien said the ordeal gave her a new purpose: learning the law to better protect her family.
Born to a Lebanese father, Mohammad Kurdi, and a Chinese-Filipino mother, Miriam Ong-Yuson, award-winning actress and singer Yasmien Kurdi first rose to prominence as the First Runner-Up on the debut season of GMA's StarStruck. After spending much of her early childhood in the Middle East, she built a long-standing entertainment career in top-rating drama series and music release while raising her daughters, Ayesha and Raya Layla, alongside her pilot husband, Rey Soldevilla.
Previously, Yasmien Kurdi revisited her viral “plastic” exchange with Cristine Reyes during the first season of StarStruck. She recalled feeling blindsided when Cristine used the term after they had been chatting and exchanging cheek kisses, an incident that contributed to the distance between them during and after the competition. Yasmien has since confirmed that they are friends again and expressed her affection for Cristine.
Meanwhile, Yasmien Kurdi opened up about how studying law became a source of healing after her family went through a traumatic period. She explained that law school gave her something meaningful to focus on while she dealt with her child's hospitalization, therapy, and her own health challenges. The actress has also spoken about her interest in gender sensitivity and legislation designed to protect women and children.
