In an interview with Karen Davila for her latest YouTube vlog, the former actress spoke candidly about the challenges of managing their household without a strong support system nearby. Although they lived in California, their relatives were several hours away, making it difficult to seek assistance when needed.
"Medyo mahirap siya kasi walang family. Aside from walang help, ang hirap kasi although California kami, our family was 6, 7 hours away, so di ba dun parang busy lahat ng tao," she said.
One of the biggest challenges came when Jimmy had to leave for work during the NBA season. With four children to care for, LJ was responsible for managing their daily routines, including taking them to their respective sports activities.

"'Pag NBA season minsan two weeks straight wala [si Jimmy], ako lang. It's just me with the kids and now apat na 'yung kids namin. And all three were doing sports. So talagang driver, yaya, everything," she shared.
The couple moved to the United States six years ago after Jimmy pursued coaching opportunities with the Sacramento Kings organization. He initially served as an assistant coach for the Stockton Kings, the team's NBA G League affiliate, before taking on a player development coaching role with the Sacramento Kings.
Despite the difficulties of living abroad, returning to the Philippines was not something LJ immediately allowed herself to anticipate. She explained that she tried to accept the possibility that their life in the United States might be where they were meant to stay, rather than getting her hopes up about moving back.
When Jimmy eventually received a job offer in the Philippines, however, her feelings began to change. As the days passed and the couple started discussing the possibility more seriously, she found herself becoming increasingly excited about their return.

"So 'yun that's why nung nagkaroon siya ng offer dito [sa Pilipinas], nung una medyo inano ko na 'yung sarili ko kay Lord, siguro this is ano talaga this is where You want us so hindi ko muna iisipin 'yung Philippines, ganyan. So nung nagkaroon ng offer parang ayaw ko munang ma-excite tapos as the days went by parang sobrang nai-excite na ako and we started talking about it," she said.
Their experience highlights the adjustments that can come with raising a family overseas, particularly when work commitments and distance from relatives leave one parent handling much of the daily caregiving. For LJ, Jimmy's opportunity to work in the Philippines eventually opened the door to a homecoming she had initially been hesitant to anticipate.
Born to Ruel Ricafort and Debra Lacsamana—the sister of screen icon Alma Moreno—former Filipina actress, host, and entrepreneur LJ Moreno first gained prominence through notable roles in films and television series like Working Girls and The Leaving. She later pivoted into content creation and pastry business ventures while building a family in the United States with her husband, former PBA star Jimmy Alapag, and their four children.
Previously, LJ Moreno marked her 46th birthday on October 5 with an unexpected celebration planned by her husband, former PBA star Jimmy Alapag. The actress and vlogger became emotional when she arrived home to find that Jimmy had secretly gathered their relatives and friends for a surprise party. To keep the preparations under wraps, he took LJ shopping while their loved ones decorated and organized the gathering. Overwhelmed by the thoughtful gesture, LJ thanked everyone involved and affectionately told Jimmy that he had finally managed to catch her off guard.
Meanwhile, LJ Moreno and Jimmy Alapag previously opened up about a brief breakup they experienced before getting married. During their appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” LJ explained that their separation stemmed from their lack of maturity at the time and her own struggles with jealousy. She added that Jimmy had limited experience with serious, long-term relationships during that stage of his life. Looking back on their past difficulties, LJ shared that she no longer deals with the same insecurities, crediting her growth in self-confidence for the change.
