Gary Valenciano looked back on one of the most difficult chapters of his life as he recalled the moment doctors discovered that he had cancer.

The OPM icon opened up about his diagnosis in the latest vlog of host Luis Manzano. Now cancer-free, Valenciano revisited the experience and the emotional decision to personally tell his fellow Kapamilyas about his condition.

After learning about the disease, Valenciano invited several of his friends in the entertainment industry to his home. Among those who came were Manzano, his wife Jessy Mendiola, Martin Nievera, and Toni Gonzaga.

The singer said the gathering became more than simply a way to deliver difficult news. It also showed him how deeply he was cared for by the people around him.

"I saw kung gaano katotoo at kung gaano kalalim 'yung pagmamahal sa akin ng mga Kapamilya ko."

"It will come out, but you want to make sure that the people that need to know need to hear it from me, not from anybody," he said.

Valenciano explained that his cancer was discovered after he underwent heart bypass surgery. His doctor initially told him that he had pleural effusion in his left lung before later finding a black spot in his kidney.

The discovery became a particularly difficult moment for Valenciano, who admitted that even his faith did not make the situation easy to process.

"You know, even to a man of faith, that can be a shaking moment," Valenciano admitted.

"Kasi cancer hindi ba, hindi mo alam kung ano ang magiging outcome?"

He also reflected on how different it felt to personally receive a cancer diagnosis compared with seeing an illness affect an older relative or another family member.

"Kasi iba 'yung 'lola mo, 'yung tatay mo may sakit.'"

"It's different from, 'ikaw, you have cancer.'"

"Eto na."

"'Yung parang, 'at least it's me, it's not Angeli, it's not Paolo, it's not Gab, it's not Kiana."

"'Lord, ikaw na bahala.'"

As he remembered returning to the operating room for cancer treatment, Valenciano also recalled having a deeply personal conversation with God.

"I had my moment with God, and I said, 'Lord, I'm here again."

"Hindi pa ba sapat 'yung diabetes?"

"Hindi pa nga ako gumagaling [after bypass], ito [naman], I'm here again.'"

Despite the fear and uncertainty surrounding the procedure, Valenciano said he once again felt God's presence, recalling a similar experience from 1985.

"But at that moment, in the same way that I felt that presence in 1985, there was that presence again in that room."

Now cancer-free, Valenciano's reflection centered not only on the fear that accompanied his diagnosis but also on the support he received from his loved ones and the faith that helped him face an uncertain period.
