Gary Valenciano has joined the growing pushback against the practice of recording and uploading entire concerts online, saying that while taking short clips during live performances may be understandable, posting a complete show can undermine the enormous effort that goes into producing it.

The OPM icon and “Mr. Pure Energy” opened up about his experience during the September 7 media conference for his upcoming concert series, Back at the Museum. The series is scheduled to run every Thursday and Saturday throughout October at the Music Museum in Greenhills, San Juan City.
Gary admitted that he has personally experienced having his concerts recorded and uploaded in full by content creators. He recalled how audiences previously carried phones during performances without necessarily posting entire shows online.
“May mga concerts ako [noon], kung saan may phones na yung tao, pero walang ina-upload na buong performance. Ngayon kasi buo, e. Pati yung ginawa ko sa States, buo, as in buo! And it really takes a lot to put a concert together,” said the singer.

Rather than asking audiences to completely refrain from recording, Gary made a distinction between sharing short portions of a performance and uploading an entire concert.
“I would encourage you, if you write anything about this series, let people know: Don't post— You wanna post maybe a portion of the song, fine. But the whole show, ugh!” he told members of the entertainment media.
Gary explained that the issue is not simply about someone holding up a phone during a performance. For him, uploading an entire concert effectively makes the work publicly available without recognizing the effort involved in creating and staging the show.
He compared the practice to the work of journalists whose original material could be taken and published by someone else before they have the opportunity to present it themselves.
“Kumbaga parang kayo, you're all journalists. And people see you working. And somebody has a camera looking at what you're writing. And somebody gets that. And it's the one that prints it out first. It's like that.”
The singer also noted that the intimate setup of the Music Museum gives him a clearer view of the audience, including those who may be recording.
Despite his concern, Gary said he hopes the concert industry will eventually establish clearer guidelines addressing unauthorized full-show recordings and uploads.
Gary Valenciano began his career in show business in 1978 as a teenager appearing in a local TV commercial. He officially launched his professional music career on May 13, 1983, quickly gaining national popularity through television appearances on shows like Penthouse Live and filling the Araneta Coliseum for his first major solo concert in 1984.
