The actress discussed her views on relationships during an exclusive block screening of her latest film, Saving Cherry, organized by Avignon Clinic and Travertine Longevity Clinic on Saturday, September 12, at EDSA Shangri-La Mall. PUSH ABS-CBN spoke with Barbie at the event and asked her about her own non-negotiables in real life.

The question was particularly relevant to the film, where Barbie portrays Cherry, a woman whose husband cheats on her on their wedding night. The movie's storyline prompted a conversation about the boundaries people set when it comes to love and commitment.

“My non-negotiable? Basta ‘pag hindi nila napapadali ‘yung buhay ko. Basta ‘pag hindi ako natatrato ng tama, okay na yan. Sige, go ka na. Let go na kita,” she said.

Barbie also explained that she has learned to be comfortable with herself and does not depend on a partner to provide for her happiness or needs.

“Ako kasi, ako ‘yung tipo ng tao, ng babae, na alam ko na kaya ko naman pasayahin ‘yung sarili ko. Kaya ko mag-provide for myself. And so I guess, if I would be in a relationship, it is something I want to be in,” she said.

For Barbie, being in a relationship is something she would choose because she genuinely wants the partnership, rather than because she needs someone to complete her.

At the same time, she acknowledged that relationships naturally require both people to make adjustments. However, she drew a firm line between compromising for a commitment and accepting less than what she believes she deserves.

“And para sa akin, I would compromise, of course, kasi commitment ‘yun. But I will never settle.”

Her remarks reflect a straightforward approach to love: compromise may be part of a healthy relationship, but it should not require someone to abandon their standards or accept being treated poorly.
