Julia Barretto revealed why she decided to take a break from making movies following the release of Un/Happy for You in 2024.

During an interview shared by Radar PH on Instagram, the actress explained that she was happy with the outcome of the film. Its success encouraged her to become more careful when choosing her next project.

“Sobra ko pong saya sa kinalabasan ng Un/Happy for You noong 2024. Gusto kong maging mas, siyempre, maingat sa susunod kong gagawin,” Julia said.

She admitted that she wanted to be more intentional with her career decisions. For Julia, finishing a project should leave her feeling fulfilled and personally affected by its story.

“I want to finish the project na fulfilled ako, na may impact siya sa akin. So naghintay ako lang ng tamang timing,” she explained.

The actress also emphasized the importance of patience. She believes every opportunity arrives at the right time and for a particular reason.

Although she stepped away from movie projects for a while, Julia confirmed that she continued to receive offers. However, she did not immediately accept them because she wanted to listen to her heart and instincts.

“You have to listen to your heart. You have to listen to your gut feel,” she shared.

According to the celebrity, an artist can usually recognize when a proposed role is something they genuinely want to pursue.

Her waiting period eventually ended when Regal Entertainment presented a project to her. It marked her first opportunity to make a movie with the production company.

Julia said she did not know what Regal would offer before attending the meeting. She later learned that the company wanted her for a horror movie.

Even before reading the complete script, the star already felt positive about the project.

“I have a good feeling about this,” she recalled saying after the meeting.

The project is Haunted Carnival, a horror film that will reunite her with James Reid. It is expected to be included in the 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival, according to ABS-CBN.

Aside from her first Regal movie, Julia is also set to appear in another horror film titled Knock Three Times. The Jerrold Tarog project also stars Charo Santos-Concio and Christopher de Leon, as reported by The Philippine Star.

Looking back, Julia believes that pausing allowed her to identify the career direction she wanted to take.

“Sometimes, it’s good to take a pause para malaman mo kung ano ’yung direction na gusto mong tahakin,” she said.

The actress also remains willing to collaborate with various production companies. She expressed gratitude to Viva Films, Star Cinema, and Regal Entertainment for the care and opportunities they have given her.

Instead of describing herself as a freelancer, she prefers to say that she is “open to opportunities.
