Actress-comedian Kakai Bautista said she remains unfazed by the wave of online criticism she received after publicly defending sports reporter Apple David's relationship with basketball player Chad Gammad, adding that legal action remains an option if the attacks continue to escalate.

Speaking in an interview with Ogie Diaz uploaded on YouTube on July 20, Bautista explained that much of the criticism came from content creators who questioned her decision to support David amid public discussions surrounding the 15-year age gap between David and Gammad.
Before making her comments, Bautista said she personally reached out to David to clarify the circumstances of the relationship. According to her, David assured her that Gammad was already 18 years old when they first met and that he was the one who initiated the relationship.
"Everything is fine with her work, with the parents of the guy, her family. Everything is okay," Bautista said.

"So, what’s your problem? What is it? Ano yung problema natin by being happy for other people and celebrating other people’s happiness? Why do we have double standards?" she added.
Bautista also disclosed that she has been receiving numerous hateful messages on Instagram since speaking out in support of the couple. Although she said the insults have not personally affected her, she emphasized that some accusations made against her are serious.
"Ang dami kong mga hate messages sa Instagram. They call me names. Hindi ako nasasaktan kasi it’s not true. I won’t be hurt by something that is not true. That is not me. Pedo (pèdophile), groomer, enabler. Pedo is a very strong word. And before all of this, and reaching out to Apple David, I already talked to my lawyer," she said.
The actress revealed that she has already documented the online attacks and reminded social media users that defamatory online posts may have legal consequences under the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
"Nakakalimutan kasi ng mga content creator ngayon na there is a cybercrime act, diba? Na pwede kayong makulong, pwede kayong masita," she expressed.
Bautista urged critics to verify facts before making accusations, insisting that she believes she did nothing wrong by supporting what she viewed as a legitimate relationship.
"Para sa akin, before you throw a lot of hateful words sa akin, please verify and validate all your facts. Kasi for me, I did not do anything wrong by enabling happiness. And sinabi ni Ms. Apple sa akin, when she met Chad, kagagaling lang ni Chad sa Canada. Laking Canada. Medyo liberated," she said.
She also expressed concern over what she described as the growing normalization of hateful comments and cancel culture on social media.
"It’s very alarming that we normalized na sa tao, lalo na sa social media, yung mga hateful. Katulad niyan, hindi tayo natatakot na pwede tayong makasuhan. And the cancel culture is so OA. Dahil lang sa mga ganun, without even verifying the facts," she reasoned.
While Bautista said she is currently choosing to let the issue pass, she stressed that legal action remains on the table if the attacks become too excessive.
"Ang take ko dyan is, pabayaan ko na. Hayaan ko na lang. Pero, once, pumitik ako at grabe na kayo, there’s a lawyer who is just waiting. I can do that [file a case]," she said.
She also briefly addressed Miss Philippines Earth 2025 Joy Barcoma's comments, saying she felt flattered by comparisons to the beauty queen despite the criticism.
