Speaking in an interview on “Oh My Gan!” released on Wednesday, July 22, Ashtine said she entered show business at a young age, first taking on "extra" roles before joining Viva Entertainment in 2016 through a singing competition.

The competition led her to train for a girl group, and she eventually became a member of three different groups. Ashtine admitted the experience was difficult because singing and dancing were among her biggest weaknesses, even though acting had always been her true passion.

Ashtine also revealed that she used to be so shy during interviews that she would avoid speaking and let her groupmates answer instead.

“Kapag may interviews kami, hindi ko kukunin yung mic kasi ayaw kong magsalita. Ibibigay namin doon sa alam naming comfortable magsalita.”

Ashtine said gaining confidence was a gradual process and admitted she once lost faith in herself because she constantly compared her abilities with those of more experienced performers.

Eventually, Ashtine realized that the only person she needed to compete with was herself.

“Wala ka talagang competition dito sa showbiz. Sarili mo lang talaga.”

Looking back on nearly 15 years in the industry, Ashtine said the greatest lesson she has learned is the importance of believing in herself, adding that it took years before she fully embraced that mindset.

Ashtine, who rose to greater popularity through the 2025 teen romance series “Ang Mutya ng Section E,” also thanked her growing fan base for helping her achieve her dreams. She recalled how she and her former groupmates once worked tirelessly to promote themselves online by posting regularly and trying to make their names trend on social media.

Now, Ashtine said she still feels overwhelmed whenever she sees the support she receives at mall shows and public events, especially after remembering how far she has come.

“Kapag may mall shows or events ako, nakikita ko kung ano yung nangyayari noon at kung ano yung nangyayari ngayon. Hanggang ngayon, overwhelmed pa rin ako.”

Despite the hardships she experienced, Ashtine believes every challenge prepared her for the opportunities she is enjoying today.

“Okay lang yung mga challenges kasi imo-mold ka talaga nila para pagdating mo sa destination mo, ready ka.”
