Appearing on the entertainment talk show "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" on Wednesday, the two master storytellers gave fans an unvarnished look at the internal warfare that sometimes occurs behind the cameras.

When asked directly about how they manage stars who display terrible attitudes on set, Joel revealed that he immediately confronts them to defend the vulnerable underdogs of the production staff.

Joey took a completely different but equally definitive approach to dealing with toxic personalities on set, opting for a silent, permanent blacklisting strategy instead.

According to GMA News, the veteran director chooses to fulfill his legal obligations but cuts ties permanently once the production wraps up.

In his signature witty yet firm demeanor, Joey explained, "Sinusumpa ko na hindi ko na siya makakatrabaho hanggang sa the end of time."
He went on to elaborate on how deep his professional resentment runs, noting, "Tatapusin ko talaga ‘yung commitment ko pero next time na makita ko siya, ay nako, hanggang apat na reincarnation ayoko siyang makita."

The conversation quickly shifted to handling performers who completely lack acting talent but are forced into projects by producers.

Joel shared a humorous real-life anecdote where he gave a blunt career counseling session to an untalented performer, recalling, "Sinasabi ko mag-waiter na lang."

Remarkably, the individual took the advice, moved to Dubai, and became a highly successful head waiter.

On the other hand, Joey relies on clever technical tricks during post-production to save the movie, humorously revealing, "Madalas naka-long shot, madilim," letting the editing room mask the bad performance.

The legendary directors also voiced their shared frustration with actors who overstep their boundaries by trying to direct scenes themselves.

Joel recalled confronting nosy stars directly on set, stating, "Hindi naman ikaw direktor dito, ako. Binabayaran ka ditong artista, ako binabayarang direktor, hindi ikaw. Bat ka nag-di-direct? Anong pakialam mo?" Joey agreed completely, noting his silent physical response to overstepping stars, explaining, "Titingnan ko lang siya mula ulo hanggang paa," before adding, "Hindi ko naman siya susundin eh. Diyan lumalabas ang pagkamaton ko."
Joey stressed that giving up control destroys professional respect, asserting, "You do not question the authority of the director on the set. Puwede kang mag-suggest, puwede tayong mag-collaborate, but do not dictate. Because bilang director ako, hindi ako nag-di-dictate, nagko-collaborate ako."

As the interview wrapped up, Joel noted that while many sensitive artists have walked out on him over the years, they almost always return because they desperately need public exposure.

Both creators have built legendary careers navigating these fragile egos, with Joey renowned for timeless masterpieces like "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo," "Mga Mumunting Lihim," and "Batang PX."

Meanwhile, Joel remains celebrated for iconic cultural milestones including "The Flor Contemplacion Story," "Rainbow's Sunset," and the "Mano Po" series. Ultimately, their shared revelations leave a powerful impression that true artistic success requires mutual respect, reminding the industry that no star is ever bigger than the captain of the ship.

Acclaimed filmmaker and actor Joel Lamangan is known for helming legendary masterpieces like The Flor Contemplacion Story. He shared a tight professional bond with the late National Artist Nora Aunor, whom he directed in various films and honored during her 2025 funeral. Beyond directing, he recently won widespread praise for his onscreen role as Roda in the popular series Batang Quiapo.

Last April, Direk Joel shared an obscure instance of benevolence by Nora Aunor while shooting inside a correctional facility. The revered superstar handed out financial assistance to prisoners during the production of her iconic cinematic masterpiece. Joel reflected on the delicate balance of high-stakes friction and genuine warmth that marked their long artistic collaboration. The shared accounts emphasize the legendary icon's immense capacity for charity toward complete strangers in desperate situations.

Previously, the award-winning director also praised Nora Aunor for her deep-seated empathy and humanitarian spirit rather than just her acting gifts. The departed cinema queen once gifted a substantial cash sum to a struggling senior agriculturist to replace his working farm animal. The director noted that she explicitly instructed the recipient to keep her identity completely anonymous from the public. Joel further disclosed that the legendary screen icon regularly provided monetary support to low-wage crew members behind the scenes.
